Gerald DeCock has lived in Room 1014 at the Hotel Chelsea since October 1994. He moved in when the hotel was still a working artists’ hotel — when you could be broke, brilliant, and find a place that would have you. He stayed through every change of ownership, every renovation dispute, every turn of the city’s relentless wheel.
Who we are
Blake Davis is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist whose work spans conflict zones, refugee camps, and urban centers worldwide. Since embedding himself in a Gaza Strip refugee camp in 2007, Davis has documented artistic life across 20+ countries while leading graffiti workshops in Palestinian refugee camps and living in locations from Kibera slum in Nairobi to a Paris squat.
His street art gained international attention through the 2017 documentary "Style Wars 2," where filmmakers tracked him across continents after discovering his tag on a NYC subway car. Davis has since focused on filmmaking, working with Oscar-winner James Ivory on films including Can't Get Over It, Chinese Laundry, and Brutta Figura.
As Creative Director for Fax, he produced music videos and digital content for Grammy-winner Tyla that generated millions of impressions and launched her stardom. He served as showrunner for UpDating, a live dating show acquired by William Morris Agency, and has contributed footage to Getty Images Creative while working on numerous reality shows, commercials, and live productions.
Currently producing his own documentary, Davis continues merging his guerrilla art origins—documented in themed photo series begun after the 2009 Gaza siege—with an expanding film practice from his New York City base.
